Summit Academy

The Summit Academy is a program for gifted and talented students grades 6-8. It is for students who:

  • use advanced language and vocabulary
  • possess a strong knowledge base in many areas
  • see relationships among seemingly unrelated things
  • have strong reasoning ability
  • demonstrate an advanced sense of humor
  • learn quickly
  • show specific areas of strong interest or passion

The curriculum at Summit is based on the APS adopted curriculum and standards. Additional curricular materials specifically designed for gifted learners are utilized. Students learn at an accelerated pace, go into greater depth, and need fewer repetitions. Students will be assessed to determine what they know and can do. Those assessments will be used to determine each student’s next instructional steps.

To be admitted to Summit Academy, students must perform at grade level in all core content areas (reading, writing, and math); perform a minimum of one year above grade level in at least one of the core content areas; be highly motivated; and have qualified for AGATE (Aurora gifted and talented) services in the home school.

"At the Summit Academy we learn things at a higher level. We're given new opportunities and challenged to think!" Allie Cohen, student

"While the Summit Academy is fun, it is also challenging. The teachers encourage you to work hard and learn as much as you can. One part of the program I particularly enjoy are the debates." - Cassandra Warstler

"I liked building the kites in independent study. I've learned a lot about elements, chemicals, and math equations. Summit makes me put more effort into my work." - Bradley Bower

"We are involved with many great activities, such as the science fair, Future Cities, building bridges, and independent study." - Pauline Diaz

"This program is a blast. I learned a lot, had fun, and was challenged." - Kaleb Jensen
