APS Superintendent John L. Barry and Aurora City Mayor Ed Tauer will join forces on Saturday, May 31 to take a special flight over the city.
Pilot and Superintendent Barry will take Tauer flying in his plane to discuss the future of APS. While flying over the city, the pair will discuss VISTA 2010, the APS strategic plan. The goal of VISTA 2010 is to transform Aurora Public Schools and increase achievement for all students.
Using the framework of VISTA 2010 - Visionary Instruction Shaping the Transformation of APS - Barry worked with the APS Board of Education, APS staff members and the Aurora community to develop transformational strategies to give every student the choice to attend college without remediation.
Superintendent Barry has instituted a series of multidimensional changes designed to close the achievement gap while raising the academic bar for all students. Key innovations include:
- Pilot School Program
- Fifth Block of Instruction
- Positive Behavior Support
- Transparent Data
- Standards-Based Grading
- Truancy Outreach
- APS PaceSetter Program
- VISTA Scholarships for students
- ELL Education for APS Teachers
- Pacing Guides for Teachers
With these programs, Superintendent John L. Barry has set the PACE for excellence in APS.
