Teddy Bear Travels World

Fifth-graders at Arkansas Elementary School boost morale of deployed troops by sending a Geo-bear on a journey around the globe.

Arkansas teacher Michelle Wilson said the program helped her students learn in many ways, "It's a good letter writing lesson. I don't think they even had a clue where the Mideast was before. It brought it closer to home when they got to see the pictures and read the postcards."

Michelle never anticipated the number of responses her class would receive from service members stationed around the world, "I got some really good comments in the postcards. I think it helped knowing that people back home supported them."

Kenny, the Geo-bear, flying in military aircraft, has visited Germany, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, China, Japan, Hawaii and Afghanistan.

Students made postcards that were placed in Kenny's backpack. Kenny's first trip was from Peterson A.F.B. in Colorado Springs to Ramstein A.F.B. in Germany. The address on the postcards brought messages and pictures back to Arkansas Elementary from service members around the world.

Another Geo-bear may be heading out in the near future.
