Arkansas Parents Offer Solutions

Worried about safety during pick-up and drop-off times at school, a group of Arkansas parents decided to become part of the safety solution. Led by Debbie Bailey, parents formed Arkansas Safety Solutions. They met with local homeowner associations, city planners, police officers and APS staff members to identify challenges and discuss ways to keep students safe.  The Safety Solutions team was born.

Bailey was recently honored with a Superintendent’s Award as outstanding parent/community member of the quarter for her contributions to Arkansas.

This six-member parent group helps students cross the street safely, directs cars and offers a warm smile.

Safety Solutions parents wear highly visible orange t-shirts and jackets with the question, “Are you a piece of the safety solution at Arkansas?” printed on the back.  They take their jobs very seriously. “There is no one better than a mother to help keep kids safe,” member Julie Peterson said.
