APS Board of Education Honors Partners in Learning
The Aurora Public Schools Board of Education recently awarded its first annual Citizen and Business of the Year awards to Kate Tauer and Raytheon.
The board recognized Aurora's former First Lady Kate Tauer as Citizen of the Year. As a community ambassador, Tauer is a strong supporter of the Aurora Public Schools. She served as a member of the Aurora Citizens for Excellent Schools, the citizen-run bond steering committee that was instrumental in the successful passage of the $225 million bond in 2002. As a result of these efforts, every APS student will benefit from building improvements.

Raytheon was recognized by the board as Business of the Year. Vice President of Space Systems Ray Kolibaba accepted the award on behalf of Raytheon. Raytheon employees tutor and mentor students at several middle and high schools. Raytheon employees also create special projects for APS students, including egg drop physics tests and rocket-launching experiments.
Each year the board honors a citizen and a business as partners in learning with APS students and staff members.
