APS Community Raises Funds for Gregg Jones
Students, staff and community members throughout APS have come together to raise funds for fourth-grade Yale Elementary student Gregg Jones. Gregg was the victim of a dog attack. They plan to pay for Gregg's medical and other expenses when he gets out of the hospital.

At Yale, students and staff have started a Penny Drive in every classroom. The drive will continue through Dec. 16. They are also holding Bowl-a-Thons at the AMF Aurora Lanes on the corner of Mississippi Ave. and Buckley Rd. The two events will take place Sunday, Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 10 from 12 - 4 p.m. Tickets are available for $10.

The staff and students at Yale plan to use the money they raise to help with Gregg’s medical bills and the purchase of a prosthetic arm. They also hope to get Gregg a talking computer if he needs one.

“I think the fundraising for Gregg will be good, because he is in the hospital. I’ve known him since the first grade, and he is everybody’s best friend.”
– Yale fourth-grader and fellow classmate Michael

Pickens Tech will be holding a Cut-a-Thon in the Cosmetology Salon from Dec. 5 - 9. All the proceeds from the $4-$6 haircuts will go towards a fund for Gregg.
Community businesses throughout Aurora are also planning to help raise funds. Three Aurora Dairy Queen stores will collect donatons, and both Aurora Skate City rinks will be sponsoring a Skate-a-Thon for Gregg on Dec. 6 from 6 - 8 p.m. The $5 admission price and 50% of all concession sales will go towards helping Gregg.

Dick Kuratli, a community volunteer at Yale, is spearheading efforts to get more of the Aurora community involved as well.

"As a dog-lover and longtime volunteer at Yale Elementary, I'm deeply disturbed by this unfortunate tragedy.  Our little fourth-grader is going to have a difficult time ahead, and I'm hoping the entire Aurora community will come together and support our fundraising efforts.  All the money we raise will benefit Gregg directly."
