Empty Bowls Inspire a Community

Gateway High School students sculpted clay bowls for a fundraising dinner that brought hunger in our community to the forefront.  The Gateway Interact Club sponsored this year’s event.  Community members purchased a $10 donation ticket, then selected a bowl that served as a reminder of the empty bowls in our community.  A simple dinner of soup and bread was served.

Gateway art teacher Angie Willsea contributed to the event by donating money from the Boettcher Teacher Award she received last year. She purchased bisqueware and underglazes for teachers and students to paint bowls for the event.

“Working on the Empty Bowls project showed me that the community cares about its people. I was impressed with the amount of donations we generated.  If we all band together, we can achieve something great!”
