Romanoff Steps out of the State Capitol and into the Classroom
It’s a well-known fact that young people vote less than older citizens.  That’s why Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives Andrew Romanoff was glad to have the opportunity to educate Gateway High School students about different laws and the political process for his University of Denver Street Law course.
Once a week for a month, Romanoff taught Gateway High School teacher Jill Eden’s Law and Government class.

“I want students to understand how decisions made by the government directly affect them. I would like for them to take more of an interest in politics and develop into informed voters who can separate the trash from the truth.”
- Andrew Romanoff

“Romanoff brought government up close and personal to the students and brought their textbooks to life. He also gave them the perspective that not all politicians are corrupt.”

Romanoff gave students a lesson on how referendums and initiatives get on the ballot, engaged them in debate about this fall’s ballot, and drew them into discussions about immigration.

“Thanks to Romanoff, I now know that I want to be involved in the political process. I’ve learned that if I don’t get involved, it’s like saying another person’s opinion is more important than mine. I want my opinion to count.”
- Guadalupe Medina
Gateway High School senior
