Some very lucky students from Sable Elementary School recently skated with Colorado Avalanche hockey players.
The Avalanche "Break the Ice" program is designed to give kids with little or no ice skating experience a chance to learn. Av's players, Cody McCormick and Travis Brigley, were on hand to help the kids.
The trip was a huge learning experience for the kids. They were able to learn some of the specialized vocabulary of the game of hockey as well as talk and write about a sport that was brand new to most of them. We may not have a lot of future hockey players at Sable, but now we have many potential sports writers.
