APS Unveils Winning Logo

After nearly 18 years of using the beloved ‘a’ as the district logo, Aurora Public Schools has unveiled a new logo to represent the district.  Design students from Pickens Technical College submitted 47 concepts which were later narrowed to three.  More than 3,000 APS students, teachers and community members voted for their favorite design.

The winning logo was created by Tracy Anderson and unveiled by the APS Board of Education and Superintendent John L. Barry at the March 6 board meeting. Morgan Rangel and Michael McGrail were the other two student finalists.

“It’s really exciting to know that my logo will be used all across the district. I wanted my logo to embody the APS spirit and appeal to all people.”

The new look will be phased in over the next few years.  On printed items such as letterhead and business cards, the old logo will be replaced as new orders come in.

Makeovers to district signs and vehicle logos will also occur over the next few years.  The goal is to minimize cost and phase this into normal replacements that occur over time.

Watch for a new look using the new logo in APS publications including the Aurora Daily Sun & Sentinel back page and on the APS Web site.

“The new logo is a dynamic figure—it’s picking up the PACE for APS.  The mountains represent the key elements of VISTA 2010:  People, Achievement, Community and Environment.  The highest peak stands for 'Achievement.' APS is preparing our students for success in a global community.  The figure holds a globe to show that our students hold the world in their hands.”
