Mayor Kicks Off APS Read Aloud Month
Dalton Elementary fifth graders received a special surprise when Aurora Mayor Edward Tauer joined their class to read from the school’s new “read aloud” collection. Tauer also read to students at Kenton Elementary. The mayor’s visits kicked off the district’s celebration of Read Aloud Month—observed in October by schools statewide.

Mayor Tauer is the first official to answer Superintendent John L. Barry’s challenge to act as “leaders who are readers.” Superintendent Barry has issued several challenges to staff, parents and community members to make a difference in the lives of APS students. A full list of the challenges is posted at http://www.aps.k12.co.us/staff/barry_challenge.htm.

“Reading is an important part of my job every day, and it is something I love to do. I enjoyed coming here to read with you today. I’d like to come in and read at schools as often as possible.”
