Park Lane and Kiwanis Partner for Reading Success

Aurora Kiwanis Club members recently joined 18 Park Lane Elementary students to celebrate their reading achievements. The visit was part of a program sponsored by Kiwanis to recognize student reading success.

Four times a year, Kiwanis brings books and refreshments to Park Lane, and students get to select a new book and show off their reading skills. Teachers from each classroom choose students who have made the most progress in reading to participate.

Kiwanis started the reading event with Park Lane four years ago. The club has enjoyed a similar 10-year partnership with Vaughn Elementary.

“This is a wonderful way to reward our students who are working hard at reading. It’s hard to tell who enjoys the event more—students, parents or Kiwanis members!”

Park Lane Principal

“I enjoy reading mysteries. I like how books keep you in suspense. You want to keep reading to find out what happens next.”

“We have had a terrific reaction to this program. The best part is having the opportunity to interact with students and read with them. Encouragement is a very important part of reading success.”
- Ron Hultquist
Kiwanis member and former APS principal
