Pickens Tech - Community Partner of the Year
The Medical Center of Aurora's "Grow Your Own Program"

Pickens Tech was honored by the Medical Center of Aurora as the Health One Community Partner of the Year. The event was held at the Denver Center of the Performing Arts with over 600 people in attendance.

Local teachers, nurses, doctors and other health care professionals are teaching Pickens students. What a powerful way to improve the health and growth of the community we serve. Pickens Tech provides the classroom instruction; The Medical Center of Aurora provides a clinical setting for students to get hands-on experience with actual patients, nurses and doctors. The "Grow-Your-Own program” allows Medical Center of Aurora employees in other service-oriented positions, like housekeeping or food service, to develop a medical career path.

The Medical Center of Aurora has contributed over $50,000 for students to continue their education at Pickens and further their professional careers at the Medical Center of Aurora.

¨Ms. Sylvia Young, President and CEO of the Medical Center of Aurora, presented the award to APS Board of Education President Pat Lord, Pickens Tech Executive Director Dan Lucero, and Assistant Director Rick Bettger. Health Occupations Division Chair Gary Schroeder built the partnership between his faculty, staff and students and the Medical Center of Aurora.
