Pickens Tech was honored by the Medical Center of Aurora as
the Health One Community Partner of the Year. The event was
held at the Denver Center of the Performing Arts with over
600 people in attendance.
Local teachers, nurses, doctors
and other health care professionals are teaching Pickens students.
What a powerful way to improve the health and growth of the
community we serve. Pickens Tech provides the classroom instruction;
The Medical Center of Aurora provides a clinical setting for
students to get hands-on experience with actual patients,
nurses and doctors. The "Grow-Your-Own program”
allows Medical Center of Aurora employees in other service-oriented
positions, like housekeeping or food service, to develop a
medical career path.
The Medical Center of Aurora
has contributed over $50,000 for students to continue their
education at Pickens and further their professional careers
at the Medical Center of Aurora.

¨Ms. Sylvia Young, President and CEO of the Medical Center
of Aurora, presented the award to APS Board of Education President
Pat Lord, Pickens Tech Executive Director Dan Lucero, and
Assistant Director Rick Bettger. Health Occupations Division
Chair Gary Schroeder built the partnership between his faculty,
staff and students and the Medical Center of Aurora.
