Students, staff members and APS alumni from all over the district took the time to share with others this holiday season. Below is a sample. |
- Most parents wish for a little time for themselves away from their children. Staff members at Vassar Elementary School recently gave a special gift to parents by providing a special night of childcare for their students with disabilities. For the third year, staff members organized a fun night that included a pizza party complete with games and a movie for students and siblings.

- The Lansing Elementary School student council sponsored a school-wide canned food drive to help the local Salvation Army. In less than two weeks the school pulled together nearly 2,000 items!

- Aurora Central High School graduate Brad Martin enjoys giving back to his community. This year the Santa Project, Martin’s nonprofit organization has provided more than $100,000 in supplies to six APS schools. Another ACHS graduate, local dentist, Mike Diorio is also part of the Santa Project. “I am a product of APS and I like coming back into my community to encourage students to get excited about learning,” said Diorio.

The Santa Project grows every year. When Martin began delivering goodies to students 13 years ago, he never imagined it would grow into what it is today. He now brings in community leaders, local businesses and Dinger, the Colorado Rockies mascot.

“My goal for the project is to make these giving experiences the best for the students. I want it to be one of those happy childhood memories…the day the Santa Project came to their school.”
