Transition Fair Helps Students Prepare for Life After High School

Moving on to college or a career after high school can be a major transition for most students. For students with disabilities and their families, finding resources to help make that transition a smooth one is even more important.

Sponsored by the APS Parent Professional Partnership and the Arapahoe-Douglas Transition Task Force, the recent Transition Fair held at the Community College of Aurora connected students and parents with agencies and vendors to help them with “What happens after high school?”

Representatives from more than 30 agencies and vendors and five local school districts provided information on such topics as school transition programs, post-secondary educational options, adult services providers, transportation, health care, social security and estate planning.

"We're glad we had such a strong turnout for this year's fair. We strive to make this a comfortable and informative way for students with disabilities and their families to connect with the resources they'll need when they leave high school."
