Community Celebrates West Middle School’s Fresh New Look

It was a night of honoring the past and celebrating the future at West.  More than 150 students, staff and community members gathered at West to see the results of the school’s bond-funded remodel. Principal Dale Krueger greeted the West community and shared highlights of the remodel.

"The students at West Middle School deserve a modern, beautiful learning environment…and thanks to bond improvements, they now have it," said Kreuger.

Some of the improvements to the school include:

  • A modern media center with the latest technology
  • Science classrooms that are equipped to teach middle-school science
  • A spacious new cafeteria and kitchen
  • A bright, remodeled gymnasium to play in
  • A brand new school entrance and offices

In addition to touring the remodeled school, families viewed the national award-winning documentary on the history of West Middle School and Historic William Smith.   The video project was a collaboration with the community that features West students interviewing former students and staff members about their personal school experiences.

“I was a member of the last graduating class of Aurora High School—the Class of 1955—before the school became West Junior High School. Like many Aurora community members, I have many fond memories of my school days here.”
- Dr. Ed Lord
APS Board of Education Director

During the celebration, families feasted on Chicken Marsala and pasta graciously provided by Carrabba’s Italian Grill.
