Energy Conservation Pays Off in APS

Everyone in the district can play a part in energy conservation.  It could be as easy as flipping a switch. APS energy consultant Tim Bacon is changing attitudes while developing an energy savings plan for the district.

“If you treat your workplace like your own home and just turn off the lights when you leave work, a lot of energy can be saved."

Committed to cutting costs, Bacon is focusing on a partnership with Xcel Energy to increase efficiency throughout the district. Xcel Energy offers rebates to encourage businesses to become more energy savvy. So far, the district has earned more than $130,000 in rebates, which go back into the general district fund.

Bacon works with each APS site to help managers and custodians learn how and where to save money.   Recently, APS purchased 300 new energy efficient lighting fixtures to replace conventional lights in district sites, which could result in an additional $20,000 in rebates.

So, don’t forget to turn the lights out!
