Description of School District
The
Aurora Public School District is currently the sixth largest school
district, out of the 178 public school districts, in the state of
Colorado.
It is located in Aurora, Colorado, a city on the eastern border of
Denver, Colorado, that covers nearly 128 square miles and
is currently about
60 percent developed with residential, industrial and commercial
property. The district educates over 32,000 students at 46 different K-12
school sites and five charter schools.
A full range of educational programs and services authorized by Colorado
State Statute are provided, including: basic K-12 education in elementary,
middle, and senior high schools, special education for handicapped students,
and vocational education. Over 120 school buses are used daily to transport over 7,100 students to and from school. The district has an annual operating budget
of over $246 million and a total district
budget of $385 million. It has approximately 4,700 employees on the payroll, 2,013 of which are classroom teachers.
