Q. How do I register new students in *preschool and kindergarten through 12th grade?
Registration into Aurora Public Schools is a two-step process:
- Step 1 - Parents visit one of our two centralized admissions sites and complete forms to be admitted to the district.
- Step 2 - Parents visit the neighborhood or assigned school to obtain class assignments, schedules and other information unique to that school.

Q. When can I enroll my child for kindergarten?
Kindergarten registration for the 2009-10 school year will begin on April 8, 2009, and continues for the remainder of the year. Please visit one of our two centralized admissions sites. The Hoffman Heights office at 6th and Peoria is open between the hours of 7:30 am and 4 pm. The Somerset Village office at Mississippi and Buckley is open between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Your child must be 5 years old on or before October 1, 2009.

Q. Will all parents need to visit an admissions site to enroll their student into a school?
No, only parents with students new to the district or parents who have changed their address need to visit a centralized admissions site. Parents who currently have students in the district and are changing their address will need to visit a centralized admissions site to verify their address and complete one short form, the Student Demographic Change Form and/or School Transfer. Q. Where do I go to register my child for school? Do I need an appointment?
For students new to the district, registration in Aurora Public Schools is a simple two-step process. The first step is to visit either of our centralized admissions sites. Our Peoria and Sixth Avenue admissions site is located at 690 Peoria St., Suite F, in the southeast corner of the Hoffman Heights Shopping Center. Our Buckley and Mississippi admissions site is located at 1250 S. Buckley Ave., Suite L, in the southern section of the Somerset Village Shopping Center. No appointment is necessary. Hours of operation for the Hoffman Heights site is 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Hours of operation for the Somerset Village site is 7:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Monday-Friday. Please see the Required Documents Page for a list of documents to bring. After you complete the admissions process, you and your child will visit the assigned school to obtain class assignments, schedules and other information.
Q. What is needed to verify residency in Aurora Public Schools?
- Parents will need to provide the following to show proof of residency
(NOTE: Disconnect notices are not acceptable forms of proof of residency)
- If you own your home, please bring ONE of the following:
- Warranty Deed, Deed of Trust, or Bill of Sale
- Purchase contract with possession date or closing date not more than 90 days out
- Current utility bill (i.e. Xcel Energy), phone (not cell) or water, mortgage statement or cable bill -- your name and address must be clearly marked (both portions of a bill are required, property/service address must match mailing address) – last or current month
- Property tax bill for current year (property/service address must match mailing address) -- Adams or Arapahoe county
- If you rent, please bring ONE of the following:
- Current Signed Lease or Rental Agreement
- Current notarized letter from the landlord
- Current utility bill (i.e. Xcel Energy), phone (not cell) or water or cable bill -- your name and address must be clearly marked (both portions of a bill are required, property/service address must match mailing address) – last or current month
- If you are living with another family – ALL of the following are required:
- A current notarized letter from the owner/renter of the residence with whom you live stating the length of time you will be staying
- Proof of address from the owner/renter of the residence. (See required documents above)
- If possible, current proof of your residence at that address (i.e. bank statement, insurance statement, new Colorado drivers license receipt, bills received, etc. with your name and address clearly listed)
- If you live in military housing - ALL of the following are required:
- Military I.D.
- Current utility bill (i.e. Xcel Energy), phone (not cell) or water, housing letter or cable bill-- your name and address must be clearly marked (both portions of a bill are required, property/service address must match mailing address) – last or current month

Q. What other information is needed to register my child for school?
All parents/guardians will be required to show a picture I.D. and provide proof of residency (see above). You will also need to provide your child’s birth certificate or other official documentation, immunization records and previous school information. Students must be 5-years old on or before October 1 to register for kindergarten, and 6-years old on or before October 1 to register for first grade. In addition, please bring the names and phone numbers of those individuals you will designate as emergency contacts.
Q. Where can I go to obtain the immunization records required for my child? Immunization records may be obtained through your health care provider, the clinic where your child received vaccinations, or from the previous school your child attended. Information on medical clinics that provide immunization will also be available at centralized admissions sites.

Q. If I have more than one child to register in the district, may I register all of my children at the same time? Yes, parents may register all of their students, *preschool and kindergarten through 12th grade, at either of our centralized admissions sites during step 1 of our registration process.

Q. Do students need to accompany their parents to the admissions process?
Students do not need to accompany parents to our centralized admissions sites to complete step 1 of our registration process; they must accompany parents in step 2 when they visit schools to enroll.
Q. How long does it take to complete the admissions process?
District admission forms take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete for each child. These forms are at the centralized admissions sites, at all schools, and on our Web site at www.aps.k12.co.us/family/admissions/forms.htm. Once all forms have been completed, parents will meet briefly with a centralized admissions staff member to answer questions, review forms and verify residency. Actual time to be admitted to the district will vary upon the time of the year.
Q. May I complete the registration forms before going to a centralized admissions site?
Yes, parents are encouraged to complete forms prior to visiting our centralized admissions sites. These forms are available at all schools, the centralized admissions sites, and on our Web site at www.aps.k12.co.us/family/admissions/forms.htm.
Q. If I move from one address to another within APS, how do I enroll my child at the new school? Does my child have to change schools?
Any time a family changes their address, they must visit one of our centralized admissions sites to verify residency and complete the Student Demographics Change Form and / or School Transfer. Once the address is verified, parents will be notified if there will be a change of school.
If the parent's address changes during the school year and the new address is no longer within the boundaries of the school, but still within the District, the student may complete the school year at the school the student is currently attending.
A student who becomes a nonresident of the District during the school year shall be allowed to complete the current school year in the school that the student is attending, unless that school becomes unavailable by the action of the Board of Education.
Q. If I am buying or renting a new home in the district, may I enroll my child before I move?
Yes, parents will need to provide a signed rental agreement or a purchase contract with a possession date or closing date listed on the contract not more than 90 days prior to the date of the move.
Q. How do I open enroll my child in a school other than our neighborhood school? Visit the school you would like to attend and complete an open enrollment application. The principal of that school will notify you if there is space available and if your application is accepted. Open enrollment applications are available at all schools and centralized admissions sites.
Q. Does the district offer a preschool program? How do I register my child into preschool?
Aurora Public Schools Early Childhood Education consists of several different preschool programs. All preschool students must be screened before registering for preschool. Click here for screening dates and times. After your child is accepted into an APS preschool program, you will register at one of our centralized admissions sites.

Q. What are the requirements for registering my child into kindergarten?
All parents/guardians will be required to show a picture I.D. and provide proof of residency prior to registering a student. A birth certificate or other official documentation and immunization records are required for all students. Students must be 5-years old on or before October 1 to register for kindergarten.

Q. How do I enroll my child in a specialized program, such as the APS Gifted and Talented schools, the International Baccalaureate and Middle Years programs, or William Smith High School?
If you are a resident of the district and your child currently attends an APS school, contact the school or program in which you are interested to obtain enrollment requirements. If accepted, your child may attend the school or program, and no visit is required to a centralized admissions site.
If you currently do not reside in the district or your child attends a school outside the district, contact the school or program in which you are interested to obtain enrollment requirements. Once your child has been accepted, you will need to visit one of our centralized admissions sites to complete step 1 of the registration process before you child can attend the specific school or program.
Q. Once my child is admitted to the district, how do I find out more about his/her school?
The centralized admissions office where you register will provide you an information sheet on the school your child will attend. This sheet will include a school map and location, hours of operation, a brief description of the school, and “next steps” to enroll at the school. In addition, information for all of our schools is provided on our Web site at http://www.aps.k12.co.us/district-info/schools.html.
