Welcome to the Social Studies Department, you will find a wide variety of information and tools that will aid you in your success at GHS. Included within this page you will find links for the teachers, courses, and resources.

Graduation Requirements

In order to receive a High School Diploma in Aurora Public Schools, each student must pass a minimum of three (3) credits in Social Studies. One full credit must come from U.S. History and one half (.5) must come from Civics. The other Credit and a half (1.5) may be chosen by the individual student.

Curriculum

As of the spring of 2006 APS has adopted the following timeline for Social Studies courses:

9th Grade: Geography, MYP  Honors Geography

10th Grade: US History, MYP Honors US History, AP World History

11th Grade: Civics, Law & Government, African American History, Economics, Histoyr of World Religions, 20th Century Conflicts, History of the Americas, Ancient World 3000 BC-500 CE, Expansion & Interaction of Civilizations 500 CE-1600 CE, Western Civilizations 1300-1900 CE, AP World History, AP Comparative Government & Politics, AP US History

12th Grade: Psychology, AP US History, AP World History, AP Comparative Government & Politics, AP Psychology, Civics, Law & Government
