Lab Write up format

Problem:

This is often given in the lab.  It can be in the form of a question.

Background information

This should be 5 bulleted items that are important to solving the problem.  I am looking for thoughtful ideas not bulk.

Hypothesis

Usually in the form of an "IF.....Then...."  statement.

Often however I will give a lab sheet with preliminary questions.  These questions lead you to thinking about the problem and the answers to these questions are the hypothesis.

Procedure

A diagram of the set up,

Include:

  • all equipment
  • labels for all parts of lab
  • show how the materials are used

Data

Usually a data table, but can be a narritive of the lab results.

Analysis

This section includes graphs,  calculations, answers to analysis questions.  It is anything that you DO with the raw data from above.

Conclusion

This is the most important part of your lab.  This is where I see what you have learned and what you are thinking.  If this section is missing, I will not grade the lab.  See conclusion format for requirements
