Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Hiring Process Moves Forward

Superintendent-elect John L. Barry will soon conduct interviews for the assistant superintendent of instruction position.  The position will be vacant on July 1 when Debbie Backus becomes chief academic officer for Jefferson County Schools.

Kari Allen of Human Resources met with Aurora Education Association President Brenna Isaacs, members of the Division of Instruction and principals to learn their views on the desired professional characteristics for the next assistant superintendent of instruction.
APS staff and Mr. Barry reviewed approximately 20 applications.  They will interview approximately seven candidates.  Ideally the new assistant superintendent will begin duties in July or as soon as possible.

The interview committee will include Mr. Barry, Dalton Principal Dianne Dugan, Director of Assessment and Research Lisa Escarcega, Aurora Education Association President Brenna Isaacs, Director of Diverse Learners Laura Munro, Director of Student Achievement Rich Patterson, Aurora Central Principal Dean Stecklein, Assistant Superintendent of Support Services Anthony Sturges, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Tony Van Gytenbeek and Chief Financial Officer Rod Weeks.

HR Director Kari Allen will facilitate the interviews on June 29.  Mr. Barry will also interview finalists on June 30.
