"How many of you are new to Dalton Elementary this year?" asked principal Dianne Dugan to a classroom of first-grade students. Five or six hands went up.
"Well, we're glad you've joined us," Dugan responded. "And we want you to know that all of us here-- teachers, staff members, other students and me-- want you to feel comfortable and happy here at school as you begin to learn exciting things."
Moments like these filled the hallways and classrooms on August 15 as teachers and staff members welcomed students back to school. With words, gestures and caring smiles, APS staff members helped students make the transition from summer to school as smooth as possible.
