| Aurora Public Schools Superintendent John Barry announced last week that he has completed his process for the selection of the deputy superintendent. Mr. Barry has appointed Tony Van Gytenbeek as the APS Deputy Superintendent of Schools. |

Van Gytenbeek’s work will focus on district operations and the coordination of cross-district efforts to increase student achievement. Under Barry’s direction, Van Gytenbeek will be responsible for overseeing and aligning critical district administrative functions, processes and special projects across divisions. Van Gytenbeek will assume his new duties on Oct. 16, 2006. |
| Input was gathered from various employee groups regarding the desired traits of the deputy superintendent. Representatives from the Aurora Education Association, the School Executives of Aurora, the Classified Employees Council and the Superintendent’s Leadership Team expressed their views. After reviewing all applications, Barry said, “It was clear Tony not only meets but also exceeds the employees’ and my expectations for this position.” |

| Van Gytenbeek has been the assistant superintendent of Human Resources in APS since 2001. Prior to that, he served as principal at South Middle School, assistant principal at Rangeview High School, and teacher and coach at Aurora Central High School. |
