Aurora Central Adopts Crawford Students for Artistic Weekend

As part of their new Adopt-a-School program, Aurora Central High School teachers and volunteers mentored 32 Crawford Elementary students.

Under the direction of Central art teachers Victoria Schleyer and Polly Hedges and Crawford art teacher Sharon Smith, Crawford students got a chance to draw, paint and color using professional art equipment.
At the end of the event, the Crawford students took time to reflect on and write about their artistic experience in a high school setting.

Dean Stecklein, principal of Aurora Central High School, said that this Adopt-A-School activity is the first of many planned throughout the year. Other programs in the works include soccer and wrestling camps run by high school varsity players and a drama program for elementary school students.
