From APS Graduates to Future Journalists
This is no ordinary summer for former Aurora Public Schools students Luke Soroko and Cody Truesdale.  Instead of sleeping in or hanging out with friends all day, they have enriched their summer break by interning with the APS Communication Services Department.  Eager to learn more about the field of journalism, they have committed themselves to working for the district to gain real world experience.
Soroko attended Jewell Elementary and Aurora Hills Middle School and graduated from Gateway High School in 2002.  Truesdale attended Sixth Avenue Elementary and South Middle School and graduated from Aurora Central High School in 2003.  Currently, they are students at the University of Northern Colorado working toward degrees in journalism with an emphasis in telecommunications.

“I enjoy working with members of this department because they are close-knit and hard-working. I anticipate walking away from this experience with a better understanding of the real world work environment of journalism.”

Their interest in the field lies in having the opportunity to talk with many different people and gain an understanding of local, national and international issues. Both agree that becoming a journalist in the music industry would be a dream job.
This internship has been no walk in the park for these students.  They have worked diligently to complete a variety of research, database, editing, photography and story writing projects.
