Aurora Frontier Students Celebrate International Walk to School Day
Students at Aurora Frontier K-8 joined schools all over the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day.  Police officers, firefighters and school staff welcomed students as they walked or biked to school.  These students also signed their names on a banner in front of the school.

State Senator Suzanne Williams attended the event and talked with staff and students about her support for community safety.  Costumed “Danger Rangers” shared their slogan “Think Safe, Play Safe & Be Safe Because Safety Rules!”

Volunteers from Safe Kids Denver and FedEx also passed out safety tip fliers and magnets and talked to students.

Safe Kids Denver chose Aurora Frontier as one of only two schools in Colorado to participate in this special event because of the school’s commitment to safety activities. The Colorado Department of Transportation also awarded Aurora Frontier with a $20,000 grant to fund safety educational programs. Students have been practicing safe pedestrian and bicycle behaviors learned in the classroom.

Last year, more than 3 million walkers from around the world walked to school together for various reasons – all hoping to create communities that are safe places to walk.

“We are so fortunate to receive a grant that generates this sense of community.  Our students walked and biked to school and entire families took advantage of the opportunity to join one another.”
