Gateway Students Participate in Banned Books Week
During "Banned Books Week," Gateway High School students participated in a contest to guess four mystery titles and authors whose material has been frequently challenged or banned in the U.S.

Students Robert Ross, Giselle Diaz and Jazmine Kuppenbender won the contest organized by Gateway media specialist Sherri McCrill. The students received a paperback book of their choice and a digital flash drive.

"The Banned Books Contest showed me how many books are out there that people have problems with. This was really thought-provoking."

This year's 25th anniversary theme for Banned Books Week, "Celebrating the Freedom to Read," took place during the last week of September. Observed since 1982, this annual ALA event reminds Americans and students not to take their precious democratic freedom to read for granted.
