Kenton Students Thrilled with Peruvian Singer's Day in Class

On Oct. 19, Kenton Elementary fifth graders were treated to a visit by Peruvian singing star Yerselito. The 10-year old boy, who was in Colorado to perform at a local Mariachi festival, spent the day at Kenton performing for students and sharing experiences from his own country.

“My students were very excited to meet Yerselito and find out how he became a performer. We enjoyed his songs and learned some new dance steps, too.”

Yerselito is a mariachi singer who sings traditional Mexican songs. He has been singing since age six, when he began performing as a member of the family dancing troupe. Yerselito later appeared on a television show and gained a sponsor—famous Peruvian musician, Pablito Hortada. He has performed throughout Peru, Chile and Bolivia, and will soon begin touring Europe and other South American countries.

“I usually listen to American music, like hip-hop. I liked his music because it’s very authentic.”

When asked about his advice to young aspiring singers, Yerselito said, “If you like to sing, tell your parents.  Take advantage of any opportunities they provide you, because these are hard to come by.”

“It was great that he took the time to teach us his dance steps. You don’t get to experience something like that every day.”
