Learning Never Stops With APS Summer School

Many APS students are having fun learning at summer school sites throughout the district.  Classes range from 3 to 6 weeks and focus primarily on reading, writing and math.

More than 90 students at Vaughn Elementary School are enjoying their summer school experience.  “I like all of my classes, especially my reading class.  I am becoming a much better reader,” said fifth-grader Laura.

One of the favorite classes for students at North Middle School is “Community Scene Investigation,” commonly called CSI.  Students learn how they can make a difference through volunteerism and community service.

“This is a great way to build on the instruction from last school year and a positive and productive way for students to spend their summer.”

Through classes such as 4-H, students are learning leadership and life skills. “My 4-H class is exciting. Everything we do is fun,” said seventh-grader Eduardo.

At Aurora Central, students in Michelle Otte’s class are working on their English language skills. “We created this class so students who are learning English won’t have a gap between spring and fall,” Otte said.
